1-HISTORY: THE BATTLEFIELDS OF NORMANDY, FRANCE

The beaches of Normandy in Northern France were the backdrop of the Normandy Landings, the largest naval, air and land military operation in history and one of the most dramatic and final episodes of World War II.

Over 150,000 Allied troops from Britain, Canada and the USA landed here on D Day, in June 1944 on what would become the beginning of the end of the Second World War.

Normandy today is an important place of remembrance where students can learn about the conflict and its aftermath at the many memorials and museums such as Utah Beach Landing Museum, Airborne Museum, and the Normandy American Cemetery.

2- SCIENCE: NORTHERN LIGHTS AND VOLCANOES IN ICELAND

Known as the land of fire and ice, Iceland is one of the most fascinating destinations in Europe for Science school trips, especially those interested in Geology.

On the Reykjanes Peninsula and Iceland Golden Circle, students will get to see an active volcanic system up close, as well as soaking in the hot springs of the famous Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s top attractions.

In addition to its stunning volcanic landscapes, another unforgettable natural phenomenon to witness on a school trip to Iceland is the Northern Lights. This phenomenon also known as Aurora Borealis is a spectacular colourful display caused by collisions between charged particles from the sun and atoms and molecules in the Earth’s atmosphere.

4-ART: MUSEUMS OF AMSTERDAM

Museumplain, the Museum quarter in Amsterdam is home to fantastic museums, ideal for artistic school trips. Two of our favourites are The Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum.

The paintings, drawings and letters of Vincent Van Gogh will give young artists an insight into the life and work of Van Gogh; while at the Rijksmuseum, they will see up close the extraordinary skills of Dutch Golden Age Masters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer.

Another museum well worth a visit in Amsterdam is the Anne Frank House Museum, where she lived in hiding with her family during the Second World War and where she wrote her famous diary, today an international and heartbreaking best selling book.

5-SPORTS: SCHOOL SKI TRIP

The Latin phrase ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’, a healthy mind in a healthy body, encapsulates the importance of physical exercise for our overall well being as humans.

Sports and active school trips are great for both body and mind, as well as a lot of fun. School ski trips are definitely one of the favourite educational tours among our schools. A week on the slopes of Europe’s best resorts from Andorra to the Alps, gives students a taste for winter sports.
